Women Arrested in Tampa Prostitution Sting

Police in Tampa, Florida have been focusing on strip clubs looking for prostitutes as the city prepares for the Republican National Convention.

The Tampa Police Department recently arrested 16 women at several adult entertainment venues during ‘Operation Keep it Clean.’

Prostitutes and strippers have been coming into Tampa hoping to cash in on an expected 50,000 visitors. Undercover officers visited a dozen clubs while looking for prostitution and human trafficking. Officials said they launched the sweep after getting reports that prostitutes may be coming to work in the clubs during the convention.

Authorities said they will continue the operation before, during and after the four-day event.

Foreign Mama Sans Arrested in Bangkok

Three Uzbekistan women were arrested in Bangkok’s Nana district for tricking Uzbekistan girls into prostitution. One victim told police she had been promised a restaurant job in Russia but was instead transported to Thailand and forced into prostitution.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Division (AHTD) was informed by staff of the United Nations Office and Drugs and Crime that women from Uzbekistan had been forced into prostitution at the Grace Hotel in the Soi Nana area.

The AHTD contacted a victim, “Ms. Sonia” who told police she had been tricked into prostitution. She said she was always watched and followed by Ms. Notira and the other madams.

After the detective team investigated the madams, they filed the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court for approval of a warrant to arrest all the accused on charges of illegally holding three or more people for the purpose of human trafficking by finding benefit from prostitution.

The madams denied the charges of prostitution telling police they came to Thailand to travel and had not deceived the victims as they alleged.
